DAILY 5

Daily 5

We are using the Daily 5 program in our class this year. During the language block students choose one of the daily 5 rotations while I work with small groups or hold individual conferences. Each student, with the teacher's guidance, selects a goal from the CAFE menu to work on.

1) Read to Self
2) Read to Someone
3) Listen to Reading
4) Work on Words
5) Work on Writing

Choosing ``Good-Fit`` books based on the I-PICK model:
P - purpose - does this book suit my purpose for reading?
I - interest - am I interested in this book?
C - comprehension - can I comprehend (understand) this book?
K- knowledge - do I know most of the words on the page?

How to Choose
"Just Right"

3. Read the blurb in the back.
4. Flip through the book.
5. Read the first page and use the 5 Finger Rule.
